BCSO: Meth, Mexican Mafia tie man to January killing

Johnny Ray Morales, 29, charged with murdering Marcelino Deleon

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Sheriff's Office says meth and the Mexican Mafia are connected to the Jan. 30 murder of Marcelino Deleon, 42.

Johnny Ray Morales, 29, is charged with murder in Deleon's death. Morales had planned to steal methamphetamine from Deleon, who used to be involved with the Mexican Mafia, according to the arrest affidavit.

Investigators said Deleon was known to be involved with the Mexican Mafia but had been saying he was "out."

On top of that, investigators wrote in the affidavit that a few days before the murder Deleon had a large amount of meth he was looking to sell.

Deleon's body was found in the front yard of Morales's parents' home in the 13800 block of West Loop 1604 on Jan. 30, according to the affidavit. Both parents told investigators they had seen Morales and Deleon sitting in a truck in the front yard the night before. About 15 minutes later, they heard shots.

Morales remains in the Bexar County Jail.
