Neighbors, family anxious for answers about death of North Side couple

Ernest Ybarbo, Jessica Jimenez Ybarbo found stabbed to death

SAN ANTONIO – Nearly one week after Ernest Ybarbo, 40, and his 35-year-old wife, Jessica Jimenez Ybarbo, were found stabbed to death, family members and neighbors remain anxious for answers.

The medical examiner confirmed this weekend that Jimenez Ybarbo was the victim of a homicide. As of Tuesday morning, the office still had made no determination regarding the death of her husband.

According to San Antonio police, the couple’s son, who has special needs, found them dead inside their home in the 1800 block of Budding Boulevard on Thursday morning.

At the time of the discovery, police said they were not sure if it was a double-murder case or a murder-suicide.

Since then, they have denied requests for an update on the case, saying it is still under investigation. Police also would not say whether they suspect anyone else may have been involved.

An unidentified relative of Jimenez Ybarbo told KSAT 12 News over the phone Tuesday morning that she is anxious to learn what happened inside the home. People in the neighborhood in which the couple lived are curious too.

"We're just waiting, you know? (We were) waiting to hear something from the police. We really don't know what happened," said Lorraine Hines, who is the leader of the neighborhood homeowners association. “This is a quiet neighborhood. We don't usually have problems here, so this was a shock to everybody."

Hines said she has heard from several neighbors who have either concerns or questions about the case. She realizes, however, she has to practice patience.

"You have to wait,” she said. “You have to let the police investigate and see what they come up with."

Some people are hoping that happens sooner rather than later.
