Man attempts to evade paying nearly $900K in taxes, DOJ says

Robert Steven Powell charged with 3 counts of tax evasion

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio man was indicted Wednesday for allegedly attempting to evade paying about $900,000 in taxes, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

Robert Steven Powell, who is charged with three counts of tax evasion, allegedly attempted, from October 2000 to December 2013, to evade paying his income taxes from 1999-2011.

The DOJ said Powell placed assets, including real estate and a recreational vehicle, in the names of others; concealed his physical address by using identification documents from several states with addresses where he did not live; and submitted false IRS forms to his employer.

If he is convicted, Powell faces up to five years in federal prison on each charge.
