SAN ANTONIO – A man is accused of setting a garage on fire, and police say he told them he had to do it in order to get rid of his sins.

Lee Power, 22, has been charged with arson.

Officials from San Antonio’s police and fire departments investigated the blaze earlier this week on Semlinger Road, on the city’s east side.

When authorities arrived, they said they found Power and another man, both of whom allegedly claimed they were asleep at the time of the fire.

Power later admitted to setting the garage on fire intentionally, according to an arrest affidavit. He used paint thinner and brake fluid as fuel, and ignited it with a lighter, officials said.

Power said he had to set the fire in order to get rid of his sins, the affidavit said.
