REAL COUNTY, Texas – Real County Sheriff Bruce Carr died Saturday after a long struggle with cancer.

The department made the announcement on Carr’s official Facebook page Sunday morning.

Funeral arrangements are pending, the Facebook post said, but they will take place at Nelson’s Funeral Home in Leakey.

The post did not go into details of the type of cancer Carr had.

Carr was an Army veteran and served as a Texas peace officer for nearly four decades.

Uvalde County Sheriff Charles Mendeke – Real County’s neighbor to the south – shared his condolences in a post on social media.
