Truck carrying pallets, train collide on Northeast Side

SAN ANTONIO – A big mess was left for crews to clean up on Northeast Side tracks after a truck carrying pallets was hit by a train.

The crash happened near Interstate 35 and Rittiman Road at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers said the 18-wheeler was crossing the tracks to get on the southbound service road. But the driver of the big rig was not able to get the trailer across before the train slammed into it, sending pallets scattering across the tracks.

The driver of the truck and the train operator are both OK.

The tracks and crossing are closed while crews clean up the mess.
