Suspected drug runner at large after car catches fire, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A suspected drug runner is on the loose after his car caught fire on the West Side, police said.

Crews were called out near Ingram Road and Richland Hills, just outside of Loop 410 Saturday afternoon.

Police said drugs were packed under the hood of the burning car.

About 17 pounds of black tar heroin and crystal meth were found under the hood. They’re believed to have caused the fire.

An officer at the scene said police believe the man driving the car jumped out when it caught fire, grabbed some drugs from the car and ran to a waiting car.

Police aren't sure how much of the stash he grabbed before he ran.
