St. Philip's College hosts 2017 Culturefest and Rib Cook-off

SAN ANTONIO – St. Philip’s College kicked off Fiesta with an extravaganza celebrating the cultural arts.

The 2017 Culturefest and Rib Cook-off included a full slate of Fiesta royalty, mariachis and dance troupes, along with arts and crafts and food booths.

Students showcased their electric cars designed for an upcoming competition and got a sneak peek at a series of classic cars.

The event was also an opportunity to encourage young students to pursue a higher education.

“We have over 1,000 high school students. Introducing them to our institutes and career pathways, this is the most culturally diverse, ethnically and the most affordable in terms of Fiesta events,” said Dr. Adena Loston, President of St. Philip’s College.

The Sam Houston High School band and Brackenridge High School ROTC students performed at the event.

This year, grill lovers entered a raffle to win a student-made grill. The festival also raised funds for the St. Philip’s College General Scholarship.
