SAN ANTONIO – A 28-year-old man faces multiple charges in connection with an officer-involved shooting Friday on the city's Northwest Side.

According to a San Antonio police report, two police officers were responding to a call around 4 p.m. about stolen property in a parking lot at 9329 Wurzbach Road when Tyrone Lashawn Clay suddenly backed his vehicle at a high rate of speed, hitting a police cruiser several times.

Fearing he would be seriously injured, the other officer opened fire on Clay, the report said. Clay was not hit by the gunfire, police said.

Trying to escape the parking lot, Clay hit nine vehicles before he took off on foot, the report said.

Clay broke into a nearby home, where he broke through a glass window, injuring himself, police said.

The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, burglary of a habitation and criminal mischief.

The officer in the police cruiser suffered a contusion to the left knee.
