Argument between family members leads to deadly shooting in Wilson County

WILSON COUNTY, Texas – An argument between two family members turned into a murder investigation in Wilson County on Friday. Authorities revealed new details about a deadly shooting that happened along County Road 356, just west of La Vernia.

As of 9 p.m. Friday, deputies had been investigating for more than five hours.

A dirt road led deputies to a property where the shooting happened about 4:30 p.m.

Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt said the suspect, David Greenwood, and the victim, Alexander Clay Byrom, are somehow related and are possibly half-brothers.

Tackitt said Greenwood shot Byrom to death during an argument on the property where they both live in separate houses.

“Supposedly Greenwood was arguing with his girlfriend, or a female, and Byrom went and told him, ‘You need to stop.’ And they got into an argument, and it escalated into a shooting,” the sheriff said.

Greenwood fled the scene.

A next door neighbor has surveillance cameras that may help investigators determine what happened.

Neighbors and the sheriff said deputies are often called to the property for disturbances.

Deputies believe Greenwood is in a white Chrysler 300. Anyone who has any information of his whereabouts is asked to call the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.
