SAN ANTONIO – The damage to a home in the Alamo Heights area was so severe that officials said Friday they may never know what caused the massive house fire.
Crews battled the flames Friday evening. Two men were in the home refinishing floors when the fire began. The men suffered severe burns, investigators said.
Brian Trodden, a witness, remembers heading a loud popping sound followed by EMS units.
“You could see it just billowing -- billowing black smoke,” Trodden said. “It was pretty insane.”
Despite the low humidity, Friday still ranked high on the heat-index scale for fire crews. More than three dozen units were called in for the blaze.
The men who were burned were taken to a hospital in serious condition.
