SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Housing Authority has transformed a house destroyed by fire into an energy-efficient green home.

The house, located just west of downtown, on Gus Garcia, is a three-bedroom, single-family home.

It has energy efficient appliances, LED lighting, an efficient hot water heater and water fixtures, along with spray foam insulation in the attic to keep it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

While the home is part of public housing, Housing Authority CEO and President David Nisivoccia hopes it will help the mother, who will live there with her young children, to build better lives for the kids.

The house will save the family about $100 a month on utility bills, Nisivoccia said.
