NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A Comal County jury on Thursday found a 20-year-old New Braunfels man guilty of sexually assaulting a middle school student in a school bus.

Jurors deliberated for two hours before convicting Fredys Olifier Rios-Barahona of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by contact.

According to a news release from the Comal County District Attorney's Office, the sex attack happened when Barahona was a student at Canyon High School during the 2013-2014 school year.

The victim was a 12-year-old girl who attended Canyon Middle School, the DA's Office said.

An investigation by the New Braunfels Police Department revealed a pattern of disruptive behavior and disciplinary actions for inappropriate contact by Barahona with female students.

Barahona faces a maximum punishment of life in prison for the aggravated sexual assault of a child charge and up to 20 years in prison for the indecency with a child by contact charge.
