Border Patrol seizes $1 million worth of marijuana

Seizure made near Rio Grande River in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Border Patrol agents on Monday seized more than $1 million worth of marijuana in Brownsville.

Agents seized 91 bundles of pot after a helicopter witnessed of a group of smugglers illegally crossing the Rio Grande River into the United States, officials said.

As the agents arrived, the smugglers swam back across the river into Mexico, leaving the bundles of marijuana behind, officials said.

The bundles weighed more than 1,700 pounds, officials said.
