Man's arm severed by passing train

SAN ANTONIO – A man’s arm was severed Friday afternoon when he was hit by a train just east of downtown.

Police said a 71-year-old man was walking on North Olive between North Hackberry and North Pine Street just after 3 p.m. He tripped onto the tracks and had his arm severed by a passing train.

The man was taken to the San Antonio Military Medical Center and is expected to survive.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
