When crews arrived flames were shooting out from four apartments and it became a two-alarm fire, SAFD said. Thirty-two units were called in to fight the fire.

Two people were injured when they jumped from the second floor window to escape the blaze, SAFD said.

Authorities said a police officer was injured, possibly with a broken bone, when he tried catching a child that was tossed down to him from the second story.

The apartments suffered major damage, though there is no estimate yet on exactly how much.

Arson investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
