Suspect in attempted carjacking, shooting arrested

Christopher Penuelaz, 24, charged with aggravated robbery

SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies have identified two men in connection with an attempted carjacking and shooting.

The incident occurred last week and the victim escaped after being shot at three times.

Within hours, investigators said they were able to track down the suspects.

Deputies said the two men tried to take a man's car at gunpoint just off West Military Drive near Lackland Elementary School.

One of the suspects, Christopher Penuelaz, 24, has been arrested.

Investigators said Penuelaz pulled the driver out of the car after the other suspect shot at the victim's feet but missed.

The victim tried to fight the men off and the second suspect tried to fire at the victim of again but failed. Sheriff's deputies said Penuelaz was able to grab the gun and pulled the trigger, but it didn't fire.

The suspects ran away but were confronted by authorities just nine hours after investigators found surveillance video of the suspects.

Penuelaz has been charged with aggravated robbery.
