Hearing date set for preliminary injunction against state, anti-sanctuary cities ban

El Cenizo files injunction against Senate Bill 4

SAN ANTONIO – A hearing date has been set on the preliminary injunction sought against the state of Texas and the recently signed anti-sanctuary cities law.

The city of El Cenizo filed the injunction against Senate Bill 4 not long after Gov. Greg Abbott signed it into law.

The hearing date is June 26.

The court has consolidated the cases filed by San Antonio, Austin and El Paso and designated El Cenizo as the lead case.

The law allows law enforcement officers to ask people who have been detained or arrested about their immigration status.

The injunction filed by El Cenizo seeks to stop the law from taking effect Sept. 1.
