HOUSTON – Craig Boncler produced what he called “like the worst commercial ever” for his pizza place, but it looks like it worked, with the community coming out in droves, sharing a huge slice of Houston kindness.
Boncler’s “commercial” on his Facebook page contained a plea for help after the struggling business owner disclosed Sicily Pizza & Pasta, located at 13147 Northwest Freeway in the construction hub of 290, was in a “downward spiral.” In addition to mortgage and car payment issues, Boncler wrote that he couldn’t even afford the co-pays on his three diabetic sons’ insulin medication.
“I'm not asking for handouts, and sympathy/thoughts/prayers won't solve this problem,” Boncler wrote. “… I am asking for help. If you live anywhere within driving distance, please consider having a meal at my restaurant. And tell your friends. Tell everybody. Have more than one meal. We have a huge menu to choose from, and it's all good food, at a reasonable price. I'm more than willing to earn the money to pay my bills, and I firmly stand behind my product. Please help. My boys and I are depending on it.”
The initial post has been shared more than 6,000 times, and a subsequent posted noted that the business has experienced an “overwhelming” response from the community, and that they’re looking for volunteers to help serve at the restaurant.
A YouCaring page has also been set up to help the family, which now has more than $16,000 in donations.
