Two people are dead after they tried to get away from DPS troopers during an attempted traffic stop on Monday, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Troopers attempted to pull over the driver of a gray Honda traveling north on U.S. 281 in Blanco County, approximately 50 miles west of Austin, when the driver swerved into oncoming traffic and refused to stop.

TxDPS said the driver got back into the northbound lane and continued driving down U.S. 281, then crashed the car into two other vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.

The collisions killed the driver and the passenger of the Honda. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Seton Hospital Austin and is expected to survive. Another driver was treated and released at the scene.
