Family's Fourth of July plans foiled by house fire

Fire caused approximately $75K in damages

SAN ANTONIO – A family's plans to spend the Fourth of July in Corpus Christi were foiled when a fire broke out in their Northeast side home Monday night.

Authorities said the fire started in the the garage of the home located in the 13600 block of Earlywood Drive. The fire spread far and quickly.

Alisa Wells said her six kids were packing up the car for their trip when she went to the garage to get clothes from the dryer and heard a loud pop.

Wells said when she saw the fire, the dryer was already engulfed in flames.

The fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damages, but Wells said she's just glad none of her kids were in the house.

Arson is investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
