15-year-old girl killed in South Side shooting identified

Medical examiner says Caroline Guzman died Tuesday afternoon

SAN ANTONIO – A 15-year-old girl who was shot and killed on the city’s South Side has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner.

Caroline Guzman died Tuesday afternoon after being airlifted to University Hospital.

San Antonio police said they arrived at the 3100 block of Mission Gate just before 4 p.m. after receiving a call about a shooting.

Authorities found Guzman shot in the chest inside the home. Police say she was likely shot in a hallway.

A 2-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy were also inside the house. Police questioned the 12-year-old cousin who told them she was shot outside, but police said the story did not add up.

“Preliminary search of the crime scene doesn’t match the story,” said Lt. Brian Head, with the San Antonio Police Department. “There was some evidence found in the upstairs bedroom."

No adults were home at the time of the shooting.
