SAPD: Witness claims about 15-year-old girl shot, killed don't add up

No adults home at time of shooting

SAN ANTONIO – A 15-year-old girl was shot in the chest at a home on the city’s South Side and airlifted to University Hospital, where she later died Tuesday afternoon.

San Antonio police found a semi-automatic handgun inside the home located in the 3100 block of Mission Gate. A toddler and a 12-year-old were also home at the time.

Police can’t say if the weapon was involved in the shooting of the 15-year-old girl, but the homicide unit is investigating.

Police questioned the 12-year-old cousin who said the girl was shot outside, possibly by a stray bullet. However, police said the story did not add up.

“Preliminary search of the crime scene doesn’t match the story,” said Lt. Brian Head, with the San Antonio Police Department. “There was some evidence found in the upstairs bedroom. “

Police said the girl was found shot inside the home in the upstairs hallway. No adults were home at the time.

Authorities are looking for a suspect.
