Police arrest, ID man accused of shooting victim in head near downtown

Suspect identified as David Richard Gallegos Jr., 23


SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police arrested a man in connection with a shooting early Thursday morning near downtown.

Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old David Richard Gallegos Jr.

According to a police report, a man and a woman were sitting in a car in the parking lot when Gallegos approached the vehicle on the passenger side.

He got into an argument with the woman and wanted her to get out of the car, but she refused, police said.

Gallegos then went behind the car and fired multiple shots at the rear of the vehicle, shooting the man in the head, according to police.

The man was critically injured and transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Gallegos was arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
