Driver trying to flee one accident ends up in much bigger accident down road, police say

4 hospitalized, 3 people cut out of car

Four people were taken to area hospitals just before 11 a.m. Saturday after a motorist who was fleeing a hit-and-run accident struck another car down the road, police said.

Witnesses told police that the driver of a tan sedan was involved in an accident a short ways away and tried to flee and hit another car at Nogalitos and Gladstone on the South side.

Three people inside the tan sedan had to be cut out of the car -- police said the 2 females and 1 male in that car were taken to University Hospital in unknown condition.

One occupant of the other car was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said they were able to get in contact with the driver from the accident the motorist was initially fleeing from and that the driver did not suffer any serious injuries.

Traffic investigators are working to determine what charges, if any, will be filed against the driver.
