This year, the Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio was selected to host a water-safety camp.

More than 100 children participated in Tuesday’s event.

"Last year, over 100 youth drowned in the SA area and a lot of those accidents were preventable,” Sonia Lopez said, director of development. “We teach kids not only how to swim but how to be safe around the water."

In addition to water safety, the kids are also introduced to first responders in the community.

The club said that is meant to teach young people there are others who are willing to help.
