Martinez died Sunday morning after battling cancer for several years. He was 70 years old and took the lead in organizing marches across the nation, including the annual Cesar Chavez March for Justice in San Antonio.

Martinez was also the chairman of the Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation.

There will be a procession Thursday that is open to the public. It will go through the La Tripa neighborhood to the street renamed after Martinez.

A private funeral for family members only will be held after the procession.
