Woman declared brain dead after crashing into light pole on North side

Police say speed contributed to crash

SAN ANTONIO – A woman was taken to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning after authorities said she lost control of her car and hit a light pole.

Police said a woman in her 20s was speeding down Wurzbach Parkway just before 2 a.m. when she took the Blanco Road exit, lost control of her car, hit a curb and crashed into a traffic light pole.

She was taken to University Hospital, however authorities at the scene said she was pronounced brain dead.

Authorities are unsure if alcohol played a role in the crash, but said speed was a factor.
