Plate sale held to support families of wounded, fallen police officers

Event raised $5,000 so far

SAN ANTONIO – The community backed the blue Saturday night during a fundraising benefit for wounded Officer Julio Cavazos and the family of fallen Officer Miguel Moreno.

Estela’s Café and the San Antonio Police Officers Association’s athletic committee teamed up to hold a plate sale.

Café owner Jessica Garcia said she has a close tie to law enforcement because her father is a retired police officer.

“He was a robbery detective, and I would say about 90 percent of my customers are SAPD, Bexar County, just any kind of law enforcement,” Garcia said.

About 600 plates were sold, and there were also many donations received. It’s estimated that the benefit was able to raise $5,000 and counting.
