Man fatally struck, run over by forklift on East Side, police say

Accident occurred on car auction site in 5700 block of Bicentennial Street

A man was fatally struck and run over by the operator of a forklift front end loader Monday morning on the East Side.

San Antonio police responded to the incident around 10 a.m. in the 5700 block of Bicentennial Street. 

Police said the forklift operator was hauling a pickup truck and did not see the victim who was standing on the property of a car auction site.

Police said operator struck the victim with the pickup truck first and then ran him over with the front end loader. 

Witnesses also told police the victim did not see the forklift because he was looking down at the time of the accident.

Police said the victim was looking at a clipboard he was carrying prior to the incident.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Police said cameras are on the site and will be used during an investigation into the man’s death.

Police said it appeared as if the death was an accident.
