Pair arrested in theft of thousands of dollars' worth of copper wire

Stolen wire resold for more than $27K, police say

SAN ANTONIO – Two men are facing charges in the theft of thousands of dollars' worth of copper wire.

Ramiro Rodulfo, 44, and Jose Valenzuela, 27, were arrested Thursday and booked into the Bexar County jail.

An arrest warrant affidavit said both men worked for a company that, some time ago, had reported the theft of 54 spools of copper wire, worth about $128,000.

It said Rodulfo was caught on camera at a recycling center, repeatedly selling large amounts of copper wire.

In all, he sold more than 22,000 pounds since June, worth about $27,000, the affidavit said.

The document said police found records showing Valenzuela also sold about 6,000 pounds of stolen wire during the same two month time period, for about $8,900.
