Catholic Charities donates nearly $2 million toward Harvey recovery

All money will go to disaster response

SAN ANTONIO – Catholic Charities USA presented a nearly $2 million donation Monday for immediate emergency assistance for those affected by the destruction caused by Harvey.

The funds were raised by donations from across the country to Catholic Charities agencies in the region impacted by the storm.

All the money will go toward long-term disaster response efforts.

Catholic Charities USA's mobile response center vehicle was filled with emergency supplies in Alexandria, Virginia, and arrived in San Antonio Monday.

"It's incredible how people they come,” Archbishop Gustavo Garvia-Siller said. “It's beyond some particular ideology or way of thinking. When there's a need that's real, people will come forward."

The Archdiocese of San Antonio will help make sure the money is properly distributed to help with the long recovery process.
