Man charged in burglary of liquor store on North Side

Matthew Gonzales, 39, taken into custody on Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested a man they say was responsible for a burglary of a liquor store on the city's North Side.

Matthew Gonzales, 39, was taken into custody on Wednesday.

SAPD received a call Sept. 14 about a burglary at Twin Liquors in the 21000 block of US Highway 281 North.

Surveillance video showed someone "skillfully" removing a glass window pane, crawling inside the business and then stealing about $2,300 worth of liquor.

The arrest warrant affidavit said that a detective assigned to the case realized that it sounded similar to a few cases he had investigated back in 2015.

The suspect in those earlier cases had gone to prison, but the detective realized that the man allegedly responsible -- Matthew Gonzales -- had since been released, the affidavit said.

The detective also found that officers had stopped Gonzales earlier that day. In body cam video, Gonzales is seen wearing clothes that looked similar to those worn by the burglar in the surveillance video.

Gonzales was arrested on a burglary charge.
