In 2014, the Wedgwood Apartments caught fire in Castle Hills, killing five seniors who lived there.

Some of the residents told dispatchers the victims were trapped.

SAFD said it hopes through events like the one Tuesday, it hopes to help prevent tragedies like Wedgewood from happening again.

"There is nothing more heartbreaking for a firefighter than to pull up on a situation like Wedgwood and see people who should be our grandparents or great-grandparents hanging out of windows and they can't get out, so there is no need for that in this community,” Chief Charles Hood said.

Fire prevention week begins Oct. 8.
