Two-alarm fire displaces residents at NW Side apartment complex

16 units damaged at Vivid Apartment Homes on Oakhill Road

SAN ANTONIO – A two-alarm fire ripped through an apartment complex Wednesday morning, injuring a maintenance man, displacing 18 residents and damaging 16 units, fire officials said.

The fire at Vivid Apartment Homes, at 2000 Oakhill Road, was reported around 9:55 a.m. and started in the wall of a downstairs unit and spread quickly into the attic and floor space between the first and second floor, San Antonio Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Black said.

Four units were heavily damaged, Black said.

The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes, though the location where the fire broke out in the building made it difficult for firefighters.

"The biggest issue they had is that it was all the way to the back," Black said. "Supply water issues are always an issue, because, as you can see, the 5-inch line has got to come from the outside and go all the way to the back. That's typical for an apartment fire."

The injured man was treated at the scene.

The displaced residents will be moved to a sister apartment complex, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
