SAN ANTONIO – A fire that caused heavy damage to the office of a West Side car dealership is believed to be the work of an arsonist, according to San Antonio firefighters.
Firefighters were called to the 1000 block of Enrique M. Barrera Parkway around 5:30 a.m. Friday and noticed a strong odor of gasoline.
Fire Captain Robert Sepulveda said a witness also reported seeing someone throw something at the front of the building, which houses Zuniga Auto Sales and two other businesses.
Sepulveda said the car dealership not only went up in flames, but the witness noticed that the suspect also appeared to be on fire as he ran away.
Firefighters found a shoe burning in the parking lot nearby, Sepulveda said.
The two other businesses that occupy the same building -- a gym and a management office -- did not sustain any damage.
The owner of the car dealership, who did not disclose his name, told KSAT 12 News off-camera that he was concerned most about paperwork destroyed by the fire. He said that includes the titles for many of the cars on his lot.
