SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are trying to determine what led to a stabbing and fatal shooting at South Side Lion’s Park Monday night.
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. in the 3100 block of Hiawatha Street.
According to Police Chief William McManus, a fight broke out between the ex-boyfriend of a woman and her new boyfriend.
One of the men began stabbing the other in the neck. That is when a friend of the man being attacked pulled out a gun and shot the other man, police said.
One of the witness was the shooting victim’s 9-year-old son.
The man who was shot died at the scene and the man who was stabbed was taken in critical condition to San Antonio Military Medical Center.
The gunman ran from the scene after the shooting.
The incident took place while children were practicing at the park, and police said they were lucky no one else got caught in the crosshairs.
The search for the gunman continued.
