Uncle talks about 5-year-old nephew who was shot in Sutherland Springs

Texas church shooting shocks small community

SAN ANTONIO – At University Hospital, six victims remain hospitalized, following yesterday's shooting at a Sutherland Springs church.

Three adults and three children.

One of those children is the nephew of a Stockdale man.

Earl McMahan said he found out on Sunday that his 5-year-old nephew, Ryland Ward, had been shot and was airlifted to University Hospital.

"He's 5 years old," said McMahan. "He was shot five times -- his legs, his stomach, his arms. He's been through quite a bit."

McMahan showed up at University Hospital on Monday to see how his nephew was doing, but he also saw the blood drive for the victims and wanted to help.

"It's not just my nephew that is needing blood or prayers," said McMahan. "It's quite a few people."

McMahan said that 5-year-old Ryland is still in ICU and that they are monitoring him closely.

"We're just really blessed that Ryland is alive," said McMahan. "We're just going to continue to pray for his well-being. Two of the sisters and the stepmother has passed. So, the father is dealing with quite a bit."
