Police release composite sketch of man wanted in fatal shooting of 3-year-old boy

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department released a composite sketch Thursday of a man wanted in a shooting that killed a 3-year-old boy.

Rene Blancas Jr. was riding in his family's car around 11:29 p.m. Saturday when someone fired a shot at the car at Briggs Avenue and New Laredo Highway, striking the boy, police said.

The victim's sister was sitting next to him, but she wasn't hurt, police said.

Witnesses told police that the shooter took off in a 2006 beige or gold Honda Civic with a tinted eyebrow on the front windshield. 

Anyone who recognizes the man or the vehicle is asked to call SAPD homicide detectives at 210-207-7635 or Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867).

Police are investigating the case as a capital murder.

A vigil was held in the child's honor Wednesday night, the same day he would have turned 4 years old.
