SAN ANTONIO – Two people are dead following a late-night house fire in South Bexar County, the Bexar County Medical Examiner's office confirmed Thursday.

The fire was reported by a neighbor just before 9 p.m. Wednesday at a two-story home in the 20500 block of Morin Road, located not far from Loop 1604 and Palo Alto Road.

A Bexar County spokesperson said six people were inside the home at the time of the fire.

A family member said both an 80-year-old grandmother and her 6-year-old grandson did not make it out. Both deputies and firefighters tried to get inside to save them but they were not successful, officials said.

Three people were taken to University Hospital with minor injuries sustained while evacuating.

Identification of the deceased is pending and as well as notification of family, the Bexar County spokesperson said.

Authorities said early Tuesday they began using K-9s in a search of the home.

Both the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and the Fire Marshal worked at the scene. The structure is a total loss and the damage is estimated at $85000.
