Brief police standoff in New Braunfels ends peacefully

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A man who police said was armed with a knife held New Braunfels police at bay Thursday.

Police responded to a call around 8:45 a.m. for a disturbance in progress between a 41-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman at a home in the 700 block of Wolfeton Way in the Avery Park Subdivision.

When officers arrived, they found the armed man outside the home demanding that police shoot him, officials said.

New Braunfels can ban back in effect

Two officers fired bean bag rounds with a shotgun at the man, officials said.

The bean bags hit the man in the leg, causing him to drop his knife, officials said. He was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was taken into custody and was taken to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin for further evaluation.

The woman was treated at the scene for a minor injury, police said.

Clear Springs Elementary School was under lockdown during the incident.
