TYLER, Texas – An elderly Texas woman made headlines when word got out that she would not go to the hospital without a Big Red. On Thursday, the Tyler Police Department did more than make good on the deal.

Earlier this month, paramedics were called to the woman’s home for a welfare check. When they arrived they found her scooting around because she did not have the strength to stand.

The first responders convinced the woman, 76, that she should be checked out at the hospital and she responded “All I want is a Big Red to drink and I will be fine.”

The woman relented and the sergeant who responded returned to the hospital with the soft drink.

But the story does not end there. On Thursday, with the help of a local beverage company, the responding officer checked up on the woman and surprised her with several cases of Big Red and some swag.

The woman is doing fine, the department said in the Facebook post.
