Woman, grandson killed in house fire near Somerset

Victims killed in fire on Morin Road identified as Mary Hernandez, Eloy Mitchell

SAN ANTONIO – An 80-year-old woman and her 6-year-old grandson were killed in a house fire Wednesday night in South Bexar County, relatives of the victims said.

Mary Hernandez and Eloy Mitchell, known to family members as Levi, were found in the charred rubble of the home on Morin Road outside of Somerset several hours after the fire was reported.

Bexar County Sheriff's Office officials said Mary Hernandez's daughter, her daughter's boyfriend and an infant grandchild were also injured in the fire.

Family members said that Hernandez and Eloy were inseparable.

"Levi was her little shadow and always followed her around," a niece of Hernandez said. "They loved each other so much. God is wrapping his arms around both of them because of that love."

A cause of the fire is under investigation.

Hernandez lived in the home for more than 30 years.
