Dog stolen from adoption event in July recovered by authorities

Woman admitted to stealing dog from North Side Petsmart

SAN ANTONIO – A dog stolen from a North Side Petsmart in July has been recovered by authorities.

A woman is charged with stealing the 2-year-old Shih Tzu during an adoption event near Highway 281 and Bitters Road.

An arrest affidavit said 54-year-old Irma Rangel stole the dog named Daisy from a rescue group called Pause for Paws.

The woman was caught on surveillance video. Months later, police detectives received a tip, which led them to Rangel’s apartment.

Officers obtained a warrant, searched Rangel’s home and found the dog. They scanned the dog’s microchip and it matched Daisy’s.

Rangel later admitted to detectives that she stole the dog.

Adoption fees were $200 for the dog. It’s unclear where Daisy is now.
