K-9 Odin credited with biting, taking down man accused of killing trooper on Thanksgiving

WALLER CO., Texas – Trooper Damon Allen was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Thanksgiving day.

Several agencies went on an hours-long manhunt for the accused gunman, identified as 32-year-old Dabrett Black, before he was found by Waller County K-9 officer Odin.

Black was taken down and bitten by Odin, and taken into custody.

"K-9 Odin located and apprehended the man responsible for killing a DPS trooper in Texas yesterday," K9sForCops posted on Facebook. "A five hour manhunt and thanks to Odin and the help of air support, justice will be served and no other lives will be lost by the scumbag."

On Friday, the Waller County Sheriff's Office asked the community to keep Trooper Allen's family, friends and coworkers in their prayers. The sheriff's office also commended all agencies that assisted in the search for Black, mentioning the actions of Odin and his handler Deputy Blauser.

The non-profit, K-9s of Valor cited Odin as "employee of the year."
