Busy northside intersection may be seeing changes in $38 million proposal

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Department of Transportation is proposing changes to the intersection of Loop 1604 and Blanco Road.

The estimated cost of the proposed project is $38 million.

TxDOT said it would help alleviate traffic and delays for drivers in the area.

"It takes forever to get anywhere cause everything is all clogged up," Lee Hacker, who lives in the area, said.

The proposed improvements include:

Operational improvements through additional lanes at the interchange

Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) for Loop 1604 at FM 2696 (Blanco Rd)

Collector-distributor lanes along Loop 1604 from Huebner Rd to Stone Oak Parkway

Ramp reconfiguration

Bicycle and pedestrian accommodations

Officials said the proposed diverging diamond interchange is new and innovative and has proven to ease traffic. If approved, the proposed project is scheduled for 2021.

TxDOT will have an open house Thursday at the San Antonio Shrine and Auditorium from 5 p.m. until 7p.m.

The event is open to the public and comments and concerns are welcomed.
