A police sergeant testified during Chase's trial that the defendant gave police several different accounts of what happened until she admitted to opening fire on Farr.

Chase's daughter testified that her mother claimed self-defense and fired a shot through her front screen door at the Spring View Manor Apartments in the 600 block of Rio Grande Street because she was scared and didn't know the person banging on her door was the victim.
