Cut your own Christmas tree: Farm offers chance at a family tradition

Location lets customers cut down their own tree

SAN ANTONIO – With the holidays in full swing, Elmendorf resident Carlos Decker and his family went to pick out and chop down their Christmas tree.

The family said it took them about two hours to pick the right one.

"Great way to make memories," Decker said.

Decker picked his tree at Devine Acres Farm on 944 FM 2200. Many people can take anywhere from five minutes to several hours when picking the right tree.

Owner Ken Capps said the selection is endless and they pride themselves in keeping the trees nice and full.

According to the National Christmas Tree Association, 27.4 million real Christmas trees were sold in 2016.

The location offers two varieties of trees, including Leyland Cypress and Arizona Cypress. The Leyland Cypress trees range in size from 3-12 feet tall. The Arizona Cypress are up to 8 feet tall.

Decker said a real tree really makes Christmas special.

The family owned destination also offers other activities that bring families together this holiday season.

"They can go to the barn, feed the animals. They can roast marshmallows. They can play on the playground. They can run through the maze," Debi Capps, owner, said.
