Man tries to steal jewelry from Macy's using pellet gun, police say

Jessie Olivarez, 28, arrested on outstanding warrants

SAN ANTONIO – A 28-year-old man tried to steal jewelry from a Macy's department store at South Park Mall using a pellet gun, police said.

A man was seen on store surveillance video trying to break a glass jewelry case inside the store at 6 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The man fired the pellet gun at a glass case, but the glass didn't shatter, police said.

The man and an accomplice then ran out of the mall, police said.

Police located the suspect across the street from the mall.

Jessie Olivarez, 28, was arrested on eight outstanding warrants, most of them for burglary of a vehicle, police said. Olivarez is being held in the Bexar County Jail on bail totaling $29,600.

Police said that Olivarez had a 9 mm pistol in his possession.

DWI suspect charged in connection with fatal crash

His accomplice is still on the run, police said.

Detectives with the South Property Crimes Unit are reviewing the evidence to determine whether to charge Olivarez with the attempted robbery.
