Masked men pick up, carry ATM out of Houston luxury hotel

Unique robbery reported at Galleria Marriott

HOUSTON – Seven masked men walked out of a Houston luxury hotel early Tuesday with an ATM, police said.

According to police, the men ran into the lobby of the Galleria Marriott in the 1700 block of the West Loop just before 2:30 a.m., threatened an unarmed security guard, a maintenance employee and some workers.

The men then picked up the ATM, walked out of the hotel and put the machine in the back of a Dodge Magnum and got away in the Dodge and two other vehicles, police said.

There were no customers in the lobby at the time of the theft, police said.

No one was injured.

Police are reviewing surveillance video for clues in the unusual robbery, which they said they've never seen before at a luxury hotel.
